Filmmakers' Village, Chapman University

+ Project Info

As an innovative new addition to the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and the emerging west campus of the University, the Village provides students a unique and engaging living/working environment. Sited on approximately 3.5 acres, the complex includes three separate residential buildings encompassing nearly four hundred beds as well as student lounges, a commissary/dining center and a 360 car parking structure. In collaboration with the architect, Togawa, Smith, Martin, and the University team, Bennitt Design Group has created architecturally integrated and coordinated exterior spaces. The landscape design and material character is informed by and reflects the nature of the surrounding historic industrial neighborhood of old warehouses, citrus packing houses and the artfully restored nearby landmark, the Santa Fe Rail depot. Featuring drought tolerant species and rugged sustainable materials the proposed landscape design is not only environmentally appropriate but provides students and faculty a unique live/work immersive environment that strengthens and supports the Brand of Dodge College and the University.
